Translate the headline into a contract question
“Up to” states a ceiling; it does not tell you what every account receives. A percentage needs a base, a spin needs a stake value, and cashback needs a definition of eligible loss. Start by asking what action qualifies, what is credited and what must happen before any resulting balance can be withdrawn.
Three offers, three different starting points
- Welcome bonuses often relate to a first qualifying deposit or account action.
- Free spins allocate a specified number of rounds, usually with restrictions on game and stake.
- Cashback uses a stated calculation base over a defined period, often subject to exclusions or a cap.
The categories can overlap. Spin winnings can become restricted bonus funds; cashback can be awarded as promotional credit rather than cash. Follow the money from qualification to credit to withdrawal instead of assuming the category name answers all three questions.
A comparison we can calculate
Consider two hypothetical bonus credits of 40 units. At 5× bonus-only wagering, the stated turnover is 200 units. At 10× it is 400 units. We checked those products arithmetically; they are not real offers, and turnover is neither expected profit nor a guaranteed loss. Game contribution and an applicable maximum bet can still change what counts towards the requirement.
Rules depend on jurisdiction
Great Britain's Gambling Commission introduced a maximum 10× bonus wagering requirement from 19 January 2026, alongside restrictions on mixed-product promotions. That specific rule must not be presented as a worldwide standard. The linked Commission notice supplies the jurisdiction and date; a reader must still establish the rules applicable to their location.
Decide whether the explanation is complete
If the terms do not define the wagering base, deadline or withdrawal restriction, the offer is not ready for a meaningful comparison. Our five-term checklist turns those gaps into clear questions. Use the affiliate disclosure to understand why a promotional link might appear; a commercial relationship does not resolve missing terms.
