RTP

RTP is a game's theoretical return to players over a very large number of rounds. It describes a long-run statistical average, not the amount a particular player will receive.

An RTP figure belongs to a specific game configuration. Two versions with the same title can use different settings. A short session can finish far above or below the theoretical average.

How the percentage is calculated

Theoretical RTP is expected money returned divided by money wagered, expressed as a percentage. The denominator is turnover, not the opening deposit. If ₹1,000 is recycled through ten ₹100 rounds, total stakes are ₹1,000 even when some of that money comes from earlier payouts. Adding deposits instead of stakes produces a different measure and cannot be compared directly with the advertised RTP.

Observed RTP uses actual stakes and payouts from a sample. Suppose a game records ₹200,000 in stakes and ₹190,000 in payouts: observed RTP is 95%. That does not establish that its theoretical setting is 95%; sampling variation can create a difference. Large, infrequent prizes make short samples particularly unstable. The relevant comparison uses the same configuration, prize components and counting method.

What RTP cannot predict

A 96% setting does not create a refund entitlement after a losing session. Nor does an earlier loss make a later payout due in an independent game. The expected loss on hypothetical ₹5,000 turnover at a 4% house edge is ₹200, but the realised result can be much worse or better. Expected loss is an average across possible outcomes, not a spending limit.

Questions readers ask

Can the same game have different RTP settings? Yes, a provider may supply configurations with different mathematics. Read the rules available inside the version you actually encounter. Does higher RTP mean less risk during a short session? Not necessarily: prize distribution, stakes and number of rounds also affect risk. A rare large prize can contribute substantially to the average while leaving most individual sessions without that prize.

In practice

With a hypothetical 96% RTP, the model returns an average of ₹96 for each ₹100 staked across a sufficiently large sample. This is not a promise to return ₹96 from one ₹100 session.

What to check

Check the game's help screen, configuration and stated calculation basis. Keep RTP separate from volatility, hit frequency and your own session result.
