Interface versus control
A wallet application provides an interface to accounts and transactions. Assets are recorded on the relevant network, not simply stored as files inside the app. Losing access to one application is different from losing all valid recovery material, but restoration depends on the actual wallet design and compatible account details.
A person holding the valid recovery phrase for a supported wallet can potentially recreate its signing access. That is why a phrase must not be disclosed to a support agent or typed into an unverified website. The local app password alone may not stop someone who controls the underlying recovery material.
Responsibility and irreversible actions
The user must protect keys, verify transaction destinations and understand signing requests. A network transaction can be difficult or impossible to reverse without the recipient's cooperation. Self-custody does not remove malicious-app, phishing, asset or network risks; it changes who controls access and recovery.
Service deposits remain separate
Sending assets from a non-custodial wallet to an operator can place them under that service's custody and account rules. The user's original wallet type does not prove that the receiving service will credit or return funds. Asset, network, address and tag requirements still apply.
A useful classification check
Ask who can sign transactions, what recovery process exists and whether another party can restrict access. Some smart-account or shared-signature arrangements require more precise descriptions than a binary label. Do not interpret a self-custody claim as evidence of operator licensing or guaranteed payment speed. The control model and the service's separate obligations should be explained independently.
Does using a hardware device remove the need to inspect a transaction?
No. A signing device can protect key material while still approving an instruction whose destination or permissions are not what the user intended. Read the relevant request and use the device's legitimate confirmation process. The security of key storage and the meaning of the authorised action are separate questions. A self-custody label does not validate a receiving operator, token or application. Keep transaction verification and service assessment separate instead of treating one secure device as proof that every subsequent interaction is safe.
