Licensing

Licensing is the granting of permission by a competent authority for specified activities under defined conditions. A licence's holder, scope and status matter when interpreting a gambling-related claim.

A licence can relate to a particular entity, product or market. Its existence does not automatically establish that every advertised service is authorised for every reader's location.

Holder, domain and authorised activity

A licensing claim should identify the legal entity holding permission, the issuing authority, the authorised activity and the current status. A trading brand can differ from the registered entity. A logo in a footer is not sufficient to show that the exact website belongs to the listed licence holder.

For example, a register entry may list an entity and approved domains. A similarly named company or different domain should not be assumed covered. A software supplier's licence also does not automatically authorise every operator using that supplier's games. Read the scope of the particular permission.

Jurisdiction is part of the meaning

Permission from one authority is not universal permission to serve every location. Product type, customer location and local rules remain relevant. This glossary defines licensing terminology; an operator-specific availability conclusion requires current evidence about the exact entity, service and jurisdiction rather than a general badge.

A repeatable verification record

Record the register URL, entry or licence identifier, entity, domain match, activity and date checked. Distinguish active, suspended, expired and revoked statuses according to the authority's labels. If a claim cannot be matched, describe the mismatch precisely rather than asserting fraud from an incomplete search. A licence is also different from a game-testing certificate or a payment provider's membership.

In practice

A regulator's entry naming one company should be compared with the entity in a site's terms. Similar brand names do not prove that the record covers the same operator or domain.

What to check

Identify the authority, legal entity, covered activity and current official record. Keep licensing separate from a claim of availability in your location.
