Custodial wallet

A custodial wallet is a wallet arrangement in which a service controls the relevant private keys or asset custody on behalf of the user. The user's account interface can record an entitlement without giving the user direct on-chain signing control.

Account ledger and network assets

A custodial service can maintain customer balances internally and use pooled addresses. Moving value between two customer accounts can occur on its ledger without a separate public blockchain transfer. A displayed account credit is therefore not always represented by a transaction hash unique to that customer.

If a service approves a 50-unit withdrawal, it may later broadcast a network transaction covering several requests. The user's request ID and the on-chain hash describe different records. The service must reconcile the destination and amount before calling the customer's withdrawal complete under its process.

Control and recovery responsibilities

Account passwords, authentication and service recovery procedures control access to the custodial account. The service's custody, security and operational conditions influence availability of the funds. A user normally does not receive the private keys for a pooled account merely because its balance appears in a wallet screen.

Compare with non-custodial control

In a non-custodial arrangement, the user controls the relevant signing keys. That changes recovery and responsibility but does not automatically make every application or network risk disappear. Custodial and non-custodial are descriptions of control, not complete rankings of security or reliability.

Questions worth checking

Read withdrawal support, fees, identity requirements, ownership terms and how account balances map to network transfers. Ask for the transaction reference once a withdrawal is actually sent. A service's wallet label does not prove licensing, solvency or permission to operate everywhere. Keep internal ledger evidence separate from public network evidence when examining a particular credit or delay.

Can a customer demand the private key for a pooled address?

An internal balance does not necessarily correspond to exclusive ownership of one network address or its key. A pooled address can serve many customers under the custodian's accounting. The customer's withdrawal and ownership rights depend on the actual arrangement, not a general assumption that every wallet screen provides self-custody. Ask how balances are maintained and how withdrawals are traced. A public reserve address, where disclosed, also does not by itself show every liability or establish that each displayed customer balance is independently withdrawable.
