Betting exchange

A betting exchange is a marketplace where users can offer or accept bets against other users under the platform's matching rules. It can allow both backing an outcome and laying it, with commission, available liquidity and partial matching affecting the final position.

Matched is different from requested

An instruction at a desired price can remain unmatched if no counterparty accepts it. A portion can match while the rest remains pending. The matched stake and price define the actual exposure. A displayed order amount is not automatically a completed wager for that whole amount.

For example, a ₹100 back instruction at decimal 3.00 might have only ₹40 matched. If the selection wins, the ordinary gross profit on the matched portion is ₹80 before applicable commission. The remaining ₹60 is not another winning stake unless it was subsequently matched under the rules.

Backing and laying

A back bet supports an outcome. A lay bet takes the opposing side and can create liability larger than the quoted lay stake. At decimal 4.00, laying a ₹100 stake conventionally creates ₹300 liability if the selected outcome occurs. The stake label and money reserved should not be confused.

Commission and market rules

An exchange can charge commission on defined net winnings or another stated base. A 5% charge on ₹80 eligible net winnings would be ₹4 in a simplified example. That is separate from the accepted odds and can change effective return. Voids, dead heats and event rules still determine settlement.

Reading liquidity

Available amounts at quoted prices can change rapidly, and they do not guarantee future acceptance. Keep matched prices, stakes, liability and cancellations in the record. A peer-to-peer market is a pricing mechanism, not proof that every quote reflects the true probability or that the platform is legally available in every location.

Can one instruction have several accepted prices?

Yes, a requested amount can match in portions against available offers. For example, ₹40 can match at 3.00 and ₹60 at 2.80. An ordinary win produces ₹120 plus ₹168, or ₹288 gross return before applicable commission. Treating the full ₹100 as matched at 3.00 would overstate it. The instruction's target price and its actual matched records are distinct. Calculate each portion, and keep any unmatched remainder separate from accepted exposure.
