Positive and negative examples
At +150, staking ₹100 yields ₹150 profit and ₹250 total return on a win. At -200, staking ₹200 yields ₹100 profit and ₹300 total return. Scaling the latter to a ₹100 stake gives ₹50 profit and ₹150 total return. The minus sign describes the quote convention, not an automatic loss.
For a positive price A, decimal odds equal 1 + A/100. For a negative price -B, decimal odds equal 1 + 100/B. Therefore +150 equals 2.50 and -200 equals 1.50. The stake currency can differ from the 100-unit display convention without changing these ratios.
Implied probability
A positive price A implies 100/(A+100). A negative price -B implies B/(B+100). The examples give 40% and approximately 66.67%. These percentages convert quotes and do not independently measure the true chance of an outcome. Combined market percentages can exceed 100% because of margin.
Price format versus market type
American odds can describe match-winner, spread, total or other markets. A moneyline market identifies a wager on the relevant winner; moneyline odds can refer to the format. The same phrase can therefore describe different concepts. Read the selected market and quote separately.
What the receipt controls
Use the accepted price, actual stake and settlement rule to reproduce a return. Promotional stakes, dead heats and void legs can require additional treatment. A large positive quote signals a larger potential profit ratio, not a recommendation or proof of value. A negative quote can still lose the whole accepted stake when its selection fails.
Are +100 and -100 different payout ratios?
Under the conventional format, both represent evens: ₹100 profit for ₹100 staked, or decimal 2.00. The signs on other magnitudes define different conversion conventions. Do not treat a negative sign as a percentage deduction or a positive sign as a guaranteed gain. An interface may use one evens notation rather than the other. The accepted market and stake remain necessary, and a special stake-not-returned reward can still produce a different cash return from an ordinary cash bet at the same price.
